So, what are your
aims?
If you've done the assessment and found
that you'd benefit from some basic skills training, it's time to decide what
you want to get out of the course.
There are many different basic skills courses, so
before deciding which one is for you it's important we are sure what your
aims are.
You may want to start at an introductory level, or
just brush up your English, Welsh or maths.
You might be ok at reading but need help with your
spelling.
Others just want help with specific skills like
writing a business letter or working with numbers that their job requires
them to use.
You should identify why you want to improve your basic
skills - is it for social reasons or for employment? Many feel both
will benefit
Now we will think about how you learn
best. You might like to learn in a group or learn on your own with a tutor
and self-study programme. You might like to get more personalised help from
one-to-one tuition.
Identifying your learning aims from the very start
will enable you to choose the course that's best for you. Your tutor will be
able to help you clarify your learning aims, preferred learning style and
what type of qualification you'd like to get.
