
This programme is aimed at young people who are not in employment, or have decided not continue their education through school or college, and require new or updated occupational skills to gain employment. The programme focuses on improving an individual’s employability and potential, developing or up-dating practical work skills, life skills and basic skills.
Youth Skillbuild is aimed at learner’s aged 16-17, whose preferred learning style is more vocational rather than academic.
This programme will allow learners who are unsure what industry they would like to work in, lack in confidence, or who need support with basic skills to enable personal development.
Learners will have the opportunity to work 4 days a week out with an employer where practical hands-on experience is gained.
Persons on Skillbuild, partake in practical and flexible learning, supported by vocationally experienced tutors and assessors at our dedicated training facilities in Merthyr Tydfil, and Bridgend.

You are eligible for this programme if you:
Are 16-17 years old and out of work.
Are not in full-time education
Are not of compulsory school age
Are not taking part in any other EU funded vocational programme
The initial duration of the programme is 13 weeks, although learners may extend their length of time on the programme, which will entirely depend upon a persons learning needs and requirements.
A training allowance of £57 a week is paid to a learner attending the programme.
